A chef in Portland and writer, Rob Meija, have recently joined up and hosted a CBD infused meal to showcase the flavors of CBD oil. They began by slow roasting the cannabis to active the CBD and chopped and Sous Vide packets of the plant for an hour.
“From there we let the packets cool to room temperature, opened them and put them in slowly simmering butters, oils, and honey. After another hour (two hours for the honey which simmers at a lower temperature) we let the liquids cool and then carefully strained them (with multiple strainers) into mason jars and containers being sure to mark quantity and potency. These butters, oils, and honey imparted such amazing flavors to each dish that the results could not have been better.” Says Rob Meija. The dinner had fantastic reviews and everyone loved the educational values of the dinner but more importantly the taste!
Tips On Cooking With CBD
Don’t make those beginner mistakes in the kitchen with some easy tips from a pro.
- Incorporate Healthy Fats: CBD is fat-soluble, meaning that the body absorbs it best with fat-containing foods. It will be most effective with any of your favorite oils. This can be anything from olive oil to avocado or olive oil.
- Use A Thermometer: CBD oil does not do well in extreme heats. Recipes that need to be cooked at higher temperatures will not work. CBD begins to degrade at 320 degrees Fahrenheit so if you decide to use it for your hot meals make sure to keep an eye on the heat. If overheated it can become extremely bitter and have different effects on the body.
- Be Patient: Adding CBD to your food will not be as potent or fast-acting as tinctures or capsules. The first pass effect is a phenomenon that causes the CBD in your food to have to pass through your gut and liver before reaching your bloodstream.
